Dubai and UAE October 2026 mid-term break: dates and what to do
For schools on the Ministry of Education calendar, the October 2026 mid-term runs from 12 to 18 October, and classes are back on Monday 19 October. The school days inside that break are Monday 12 to Friday 16 October. Your own school may not follow those dates, so check its calendar before you book anything.

Half-term week is lovely until Wednesday, when everyone has "done the park" and the class chat is full of camps you have not looked at. Here is a calm version: the dates that are actually published, then a short list of places that exist, with links so you can see what is on.
The dates, and who they apply to
The Ministry of Education announced a three-year academic calendar. For 2026-27 it says the first-semester mid-term runs from 12 October to 18 October 2026, and schools resume on 19 October 2026. 17 and 18 October are Saturday and Sunday.
The Ministry's own student calendar, for public and private schools that follow the MoE curriculum, lists the student mid-term as 12 to 16 October 2026. Same week. The announcement's "12 to 18" includes the weekend. Children on that calendar are back in class on Monday 19 October.
| What the Ministry published | Dates |
|---|---|
| Mid-term in the announcement (includes the weekend) | 12 to 18 October 2026 |
| Student break on the MoE curriculum calendar | 12 to 16 October 2026 |
| Classes resume | 19 October 2026 |
Not every school is off all week. The Ministry says private schools that do not follow the MoE curriculum may split the break between October and February. The total cannot be more than five school days, and the local education authority has to allow it. Sharjah private schools stay on Sharjah's own framework. The calendar does not apply to private schools on Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani curricula. So a CBSE school may be in exams this week, not on the beach.
That is the official map. The email from your school is the one to plan around. The whole year, including winter and spring, is in Dubai school holidays and term dates for 2026-27, and October's exams and dress-up days are in Dubai schools this month. If you want it on the fridge, use the one-page school calendar.
Return-to-school notes, a dress-up day, or kit for the first day back usually arrive by email while you are still on the break. Hey Raha reads your school emails and puts them in one morning WhatsApp plan. Try it free for 14 days.
A week that does not need a spreadsheet
Five school days is a long time if every day is an outing, and a short time if you leave it all to Friday. One booked thing, one easy outdoor morning, and the rest at home is enough. None of the prices, opening hours or this week's camp dates are copied here. Open the official page and check it yourself.
Somewhere with air conditioning
- KidZania Dubai. A children's venue in Dubai. See the site for what is open this week.
- Dubai Frame. The official site is in Arabic as برواز دبي. Good when you want one clear thing to do, not a whole day of decisions.
- Expo City Dubai, things to do. A useful list when you want more than one option on the same site.
Outside, while the weather is still kind
- A public park or a beach morning. Dubai Municipality is the place to start for the city's parks. This page does not state entry fees, because they change and this is not a price list.
- Global Village. The seasonal outdoor market. Check the official site for whether it is open during this break. An opening date is not stated here.
A day trip that is not another mall
Sharjah is close enough for a morning and home before the late-afternoon crash. Sharjah Museums Authority lists the museums, and Visit Sharjah is the emirate's tourism guide. Pick one museum, not three.
If you want someone else to run the day
Holiday camps are the answer when you are working and the helper cannot cover every day. Two academies that publish camp pages:
- Eagles Sports Academy holiday camps
- Elite Sports, which coaches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi
Open those pages for this week's dates and fees. They are not repeated here. For term-time clubs rather than a one-week camp, the kids' activities guide lists football, swimming and multi-sport academies from their own sites.
The cheap day, on purpose
You do not need a ticket for every day of the break. A park, a beach, a picnic, and one friend over is a proper plan. Tell the helper which day is the outing and which days are home, including lunch and the afternoon rest. The weekly briefing for your nanny or helper is one message, and it works for a holiday week as well as a school week.
Before they go back on 19 October
- Confirm the dates in your school's latest email, not in a calendar you saved in August.
- Look for the "back on Monday" note: uniform, a dress-up day, PE kit, or a form that was due before the break.
- Tell whoever does pick-up that Monday is a school day again.
- If an older child has exams either side of the week, pin that timetable somewhere visible. October exam windows are in this month in Dubai schools.
Questions parents ask
When is the October 2026 mid-term break in the UAE?
The Ministry of Education says the first-semester mid-term runs from 12 October to 18 October 2026, and schools resume on 19 October 2026. The student calendar for MoE-curriculum schools lists the student break as 12 to 16 October, which is the school days inside that week. 17 and 18 October are the weekend.
Do all Dubai and UAE schools break the same week?
No. Private schools that do not follow the MoE curriculum may split up to five school days between October and February, if their local authority allows it. Sharjah private schools follow Sharjah's own framework. Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi curricula are outside this calendar. Check your school's own dates.
What can we do with the children that week?
Mix one booked outing with ordinary days at home. KidZania Dubai, Dubai Frame, Expo City Dubai and Global Village all have official pages, and Sharjah Museums Authority is an easy day trip. Eagles Sports Academy and Elite Sports publish holiday camps. Check each site for what is actually on, because dates and fees change.
